in the above areas of concentration.
Computer Engineering
The Computer Engineering program is designed to provide students with understanding of the fundamentals of computer engineering, solid state electronics and computer science and include computer systems, electronic circuits, software theory, computer networks, artificial intelligence, robotics, and engineering applications. This is interdisciplinary course with the College of Engineering.
Computer Programming
The computer Programming course focuses on the development of computer-based applications, through the use of programming languages. It prepares graduates to write and design computer software that can perform specific tasks using various computer programming languages including JavaScript, COBOL, Perl, Visual Basic, and C++, and provides the knowledge and skills to use these languages and install and maintain software.
Computer Network Management and Security
The Computer Network Management and Security programs are designed to provide students with advanced knowledge and skills to design, install, configure, administer and maintain networks. The program covers networking technologies, operating systems, hardware design, computer architecture, network internet access, information and network security, systems and network management and software programming. Graduates of these programs are expected to be able to apply management and communication skills to the technical challenges of a computer networking environment.
Computer Science
The Computer Science programs are ideal for students seeking a broad and deep knowledge of the theory, design, and applications of digital computers. They cover in-depth knowledge of computer science and develop a good foundation in both mathematics and physics. The program emphasizes software and systems design, and the fundamentals of computer hardware.
Database Technology
The Database Technology program focuses on the programming and administration of database applications. It provides the knowledge and skills required in database design, set up, management and development, software development, database systems, internet communications, network administration and system security design and implementation.
Information Technology
The information technology program is designed to provide students with a combination of technical and managerial knowledge and the skills necessary to excel in the field of Information Technology. The program concentrates on the application of theory to information issues and combines fundamental business concepts with current technology to allow graduates to solve complex business problems using the technical knowledge that they have learned.
The program covers information systems theory, analysis, design and management, hardware and software, internet applications, programming languages, networks, telecommunication, database management, security and user interface design. The Information Technology program is also designed to provide a foundation in business fundamentals, in the primary areas of business management, finance, marketing and human resource management.
The program provides graduates with the skills to connect computer science with business.
Students who wish to have a greater emphasis on Computer technology should choose the Information Technology program offered though this department whereas those wishing to have a greater emphasis on business knowledge should choose the Management Information Systems programs offered through the university’s department of Business Administration.
